TipAmount.com provides tipping guidelines for all industries with the goal of normalizing consistent, fair, and sensible tips.
Tipping culture has gotten insane. As a society, we've normalized tipping everything, regardless of quality of service. It's not uncommon to see someone getting tipped for merely doing their job! Preset tips have gone from 15%, 18%, and 20% to as high as 20%, 25%, and 30%.
Many consumers seem to conflate “tip” with “salary.” Yes, there are jobs that rely heavily on tips. That said, there's a difference between tipping for excellent waitstaff and tipping because the Chipotle employee constructed your burrito correctly. In the case of the latter, we seem to have forgotten that these employees don't live off tips (Chipotle specifically has a starting wage around $15/hr). When we hear “it's just gonna ask you a couple of questions,” we mindlessly hand over an extra 10-20% as a reward for doing the bare minimum. That's unreasonable.
TipAmount.com was created with the goal of standardizing a tipping rubric to help combat these unreasonable asks.
